Put in at the Hwy 20 Park and paddled down to Gainer Springs and played for a while. Then paddled for a great trip past high bluffs and greenery.

My Report:

Econfina Creek 7-9-16

Penny Isom (DEP) organized a trip and Charlotte, Syd-o and I joined in the fun. The 14 of us put-in at the SR 20 Park before 10 AM. The Water level was 6.48 Ft and the cfs was 535. The air was warm, but the water was cool. We spent some time at the springs on the right side of the river, with some of our group snorkeling in the springs, and then paddled up the stream on the left side of the river. The springs on the right side seems to have developed a new vent near the retaining wall with all the posted signs. There were at least two musk turtles, small brim, one large bass and one large turtle sighted. There were a large number of people on the river besides our group, so wildlife was scarce. Despite the large number of people on the river, our group felt like we had the river to ourselves when we were away from the springs and the take out. We saw lots of Green Fly orchids, which were blooming profusely on the magnolia trees on the lower half of this river section.

The takeout at HWY 267 had the most people and was a zoo with multitudes of people trying to get off the river at the same time. The heat was tremendous and I felt like I was on the verge of heat stroke.

To get to the Econfina Creek from Tallahassee from West Pensacola St and Capital Circle SW it is a tad over 75 miles West on SR-20/ Pensacola St. The put-in is just of SR-20 on the East side of the SR-20 bridge. MapQuest says it is roughly 6325 State Road 20 W, Youngstown, FL 32466 at 30.431981, -85.545111.
