This is a 5 miles from Forestry 329 (Martian Bridge) to Oak Park Bridge. The Sopchoppy is a techinical river with lots of twists and turns. It is also a beautiful stream with lots interesting trees.

My Report:

Led by Don Kelly (Kathy N and John) went on an ACKC paddle of 5 miles from Forestry 329 (Martian Bridge) to Oak Park Bridge.

The water level was just a tad above 13 ft. and the cfs was 314, while the median is 141 cfs. At this level the Sopchoppy is not as technical rivers as it is at lower level. However one limbo log was a challenge and at another few inches of water higher would had to be a pullover. We were on the water at 10:40 and off at 12, which is the fastest I have done this river. Partly a result of not bring my camera and partly the higher and faster water.

You can find the water level using this link.

As usual there was nothing in bloom this time of year; we will have to wait for the wild azaleas in spring. We did get a very brief look at about three turtles plopping in the water. The other wild life we saw was about 40 hunters at the little parking lot east of the put-in when we went back pick up Donís car. They were having a family day.

Although the day started out with frost along the sides of the road in Wakulla County it was a beautiful day: warm, sunny and with great company! If I had not forg
