Blackwater River In The Panhandle

I read a recent trip report about the Blackwater River from Kennedy Bridge to Peaden reporting on the huge log jam. I would like to say that members of the WFCKC have cut repeatedly at that spot, but it is impossible to keep open. First significant rain event after the opening is cut just clogs it up again. The portage is fairly long, but that is how the cookie crumbles. Beautiful section of river, and in the spring there is Mountain Laurel blooming along the creek. If one wants a longer paddle, continue on down to Cotton Bridge. At the present time there are no pullovers from Peaden Bridge to Cotton Bridge on the Blackwater.

Those of us that prefer the peace and quiet of paddling really likes this upper section. Last Thursday, May 28; we attempted clearing a path on the left side of that big log jam. However, it was cut short due to a serious injury to my working partner. He required 13 stitches but in very good spirits. We hope to have the left side open within a month. Chainsaws would be helpful and more people to assist are constant wishes. We do use chainsaws from time-to-time. If anyone wants to help, please contact me and we can arrange a trip. Thank you Frances for your comments.

At the present time there is an opening through the logjam due to further work by Wildman and a friend of his. I am going to try to paddle this before a significant rain event clogs it back up.
Thanks to the WFCKC paddlers who use chainsaws for our paddling pleasure.
