Leisurely kayak trip from Kennedy Bridge to Peadon Bridge

My Report:

Seven of us, including two 13 yr olds, who managed their kayaks splendidly, launched at Kennedy Bridge around 10 a.m. The river was moderately low and clear as glass in all shallow areas. A few lazy clouds about and later darker ones with distant thunder in the offing but rain never came close. The watercourse has been cleared (probably) by a rental company, so the trip was easy and relaxing--perfect for children and those just getting some kayak strokes in.

Met several campers along the banks. Saw a small turtle on a log and a raptor on a sheltered limb. Near Peadon we saw a cardboard sign warning of "leeches" with a drawn arrow pointing to the hole wherein these creatures were supposed to live. I can't say they weren't there, but the fact that they were in a fishing hole across from someone's grill and lawn chairs (left for convenience) raises a suspicious eye. Revelers from the July 4th celebration the night before left a table covered with spent mortars on a table in the middle of the creek.

We spent some time roaming around several cliffs. We found low blueberries interspersed with wiregrass and young palmetto atop one of the cliffs. Plenty of wide beaches along the way for picnics and such and nice swimming holes to cool off in.

We got out on eastern side of Peadon Bridge (the west belongs to the rental company). A large swimming hole (we estimate about 30 ft across and 12 ft deep) is just north of the bridge. On the eastern bank we found tall blueberries, just right for a post-kayak snack.
