Great trip except for the portage.

My Report:

Grin OK, I was warned about the portage, but I guess I didn't take it seriously enough. Acting on the advice of my predesessors, I went to the Silver River via the State Park and the half mile portage through the woods. Having to drive up from St. Pete, I chose the shorter paddle via the State Park so that I could shoot over and do Alexander Springs in the same day. Once I muscled the yak down the path to the river with my little cart, I wasn't sorry. It was the second most beautiful place I have kayaked. (The first being Islamorada) The scenery was primordial Florida. The turtles and gators all posed pretty for the camera. Very peacful, until I reached the top of the river and the tour boats. Its a wonder they ever get to see any wildlife with all that comotion, but the gators seemed to be imune to it. Definately worth the trip. Next time I'll turn around early and avoid the tourists.
