Easy family paddle

My Report:

This was our first paddle trip on the Wekiva, so we decided to keep it short and simple. We had 2 cars, dropped off one vehicle off at the Marina and paid $6 at Wekiva to let out.

It was super busy with kayakers, canoes, and paddle boats. The water was beautiful and a nice little gator was sunning with a few turtles on his back watching all the boaters passing by. Only the 2nd trip in their own kayak, our children were challenged to control and steer with so many people around. The 3 oldest (10,7, & 5) are in 1 kayak and my husband and I paddle in the other with our 3 & 1 yo. The paddle down to the Marina was beautiful and fast so we continued down past a ways after rearranging positions. Paddling control got a bit out of hand, (should not have rearranged), so we worked our way back upstream and got out at the Marina.

Next time we will just park at the Marina, paddle up to swim and then back down- thus avoiding the $6 charge and 2 cars. With little bits and being new to paddling, we are clearly in a test and see mode. I would easily do this run by myself with the children. It was relaxing, easy and I felt safe and comfortable.
