Putting in and taking out at Ray's Wayside in Silver Springs. Paddled to the head spring at Silver Springs State Park and then back to Ray's Wayside.

My Report:

Last Saturday had a solo paddle in the waters of the Silver River. There is not too much to say...It was hot, hot, hot, and steamy hot. I had a late start, 10:00AM and that did not help.

The traffic in the river was not too bad for a Saturday. All the boaters obeyed the law and were doing No Wake Speed. Lots of kayakers, saw a group of approximately 12 kayakers coming down river. Lots of State Park canoes also.

A heck of a day!!!! On my way up crossed paths with YakDave who had a very early start. He mentioned seeing a Roseate Spoonbill and a tree with several Swallow-Tailed Kites. Only saw the Spoonie, which is a rare sight on this part of Central Florida. It was in an island near the State Park.

Saw a couple of things that caught my attention. First a group tubing on the Silver River. With all the big gators I have seen in the river there is no way for me to do that. Second, was able to confirm that the monkeys are so used to people on boats feeding them that when they hear or see one coming, line up on the banks getting ready for what is I guess it is learned behavior by both the monkeys and the humans.

My day finished past 5:00PM, tired but very satisfied. Posted some pics here. For the boring details of my trip and more pics, many more, check our blog...
