One of the best paddle trips we have had.

My Report:

I could not have picked a worst day for this paddle. When we arrived at ray Wayside Park a whole fleet(if there is something bigger to name a lot of boats together please let me know) of kayaks were there. The reason? A kayak/canoe race. I was hoping for them to go down river. Did not happen. A nice lady told me they were going up river.

After waiting around 5 minutes we saw the first wave of competitors leave. One of them left the others behind in just a few seconds. We went behind them and did not even make it half way into the canal leading to Silver River when had to make room for the second wave of racers. This time tandems and a couple of paddle boards.

After that we found a large group of kayakers led by someone I have seen before. I do not know him but looks like he is a tour guide. We paddled by them and did not see anyone else until the competitors came down river, and then at the State Park.

Maybe thirty minutes into our trip we came to a troop of monkeys. Was not expecting to see monkeys so early but enjoyed it anyways. Wifey had fun with the little monsters, as she calls them after the incident on a previous trip to Silver River.

In a cloudy morning we made good time to the head spring. Once there let the current to push us down river. Only problem was the strong wind in our faces. But after leaving the State Park waters the wind calm down and the Sun was up. The best pics were taken going down river because: first the Sun up, and second, because my photographer did not grab a paddle for a long period of time.

We took a break at the State Park launch area. There wifey had had fun with an alligator snapping turtle and I drained the water from our sit on top. One day we are going to sink. That thing is making way too much water and I cannot find the problem.

The rest of the trip was typical Silver River. But our trip back home was not. Wifey and I saw a Black Bear at Highway 40 on our way back home. She was able to shoot a pic, which we almost lost for some strange reason. That is another story by itself. Bottom line, was able to recover the pic and that is what matters.
