My first paddle in a section of the Wekiva River. Out of Wilson's Landings, headed South and made it all the way to Buffalo Tram Primitive Camp Site.

My Report:

A nice lady mentioned a section of the river I had never paddled before. The section was the area South of Wekiva Falls to Little Wekiva River. Did paddle once from Wekiwa Springs to Buffalo Tram Primitive Camp Site but that was it. So decided to give it a try this weekend.

Learned on this trip that really need a GPS. Missed the Little Wekiva and made it back to Buffalo Tram. At least now I can say that have paddled from Wekiwa Springs to Blackwater Creek. All that I have left is going all the way to the St Johns River. That will be another day.

The river is nice and clear. At least it was clear before the motor boats I saw on my way day ruined it. Saw a few of those and many fellow kayakers, out of Wekiva Falls I assume.

It was a good paddle under a nice weather. Not hot, not cold. This section of the river switches from a tree covered to an open area frequently so you are not too exposed to the Sun.

The open areas are wildlife prone, with ospreys and red shouldered hawks being the main characters. Plenty of osprey nests. Saw Swallow-Tailed Kites, which was the highlight of the trip, only a few small gators, and the usual suspects that make the Wekiva River their habitat (herons and egrets).
