Wow! 30-foot-high bluffs, shallow clear water, river rock bottom, shifting rock sandbars, smalll waterfalls and rapids? South Florida paddlers - you have to try this one for a truly "Northern" experience.

Hwy 4 to the stables, the weather was gorgeous today and I really enjoyed the paddle, but I'd love to see some more of that clear water. I had to get out of the kayak and walk it 3 times because it was so shallow or downed trees. October needs rain!

Great to read that you're on the water again. Looking forward to your reports and photos.

What a wonderful experience and happy memories you have given the exchange students. I know you had a wonderful paddle.

Canoe club members gossip about important things. What I learned about the snake the group saw on the Coldwater paddle was that it was a young Cottonmouth. One of the members researched it after the paddle - he had taken a good close-up shot also, another member identified it from the photo. The identifying feature was the round circle on its head. Let's be careful out there!

Sounds like you had a good paddle, gpax. Putting in at the SR 4 Bridge helps avoid the crowds. I like that stretch of the creek.

I paddled Coldwater Creek with my church group yesterday using Bob's Livery and saw a side of paddling I try to avoid. At the end of the day, the owner said he had put 700 people on the creek. Add to that the crowd that had used Adventures Unlimited, and the people who arrange their own shuttles, and it was unbelievably crowded. It turned out to be a huge floating beer party with more participants on the sandbars.

I will limit my paddling on the Coldwater to weekdays, and after Labor Day and prior to Memorial Day. It is a wonderful paddling stream but paddlers need to be aware of the amount of tubers and paddlers present during summer weekends.

Dusther: I enjoyed reading your report and the sunrise picture is awesome!. You must have gotten the new girl at AU, usually they are very helpful. Still they must not get many cabin guests who paddle in, you will probably set a trend and now everyone will want to do it.

I like staying in the Old Schoolhouse Inn, which is pretty much like a motel room but a little more rustic. The Mark Twain room was my favorite.

I go there every year, but for the ast couple of years that huge log jam at ,what I call the horse pens, the recreational area has been a challenge to get by. But that is the worst thing about except for the occasional sweeper. After that log jam the river is beautiful.
