Want variety ? This trip has two State Parks, Blue Spring and Hontoon Island. Five waterways. Blue Spring Run, St Johns River, Lake Beresford, Hontoon Dead River, Snake Creek. Wildlife galore. Manatees, alligators, bald eagles. I've even seen a monkey.

(Hontoon Loop) I have not posted a report about this trip on Green Wave since the winter of 2008. There are a few changes to the Loop that I will get to in the report. Many of you will be familiar with them from keeping up with Dave's Yak Tales.

An almost perfect paddle in the waters around Blue Spring State Park.

A short paddle due to to the weather. But, IMHO, were the best two hours of the day.

(Blue Springs State Park) Five hours on the Blue Springs State Park Area, 4.5 of them in the waters of the Saint John River. Lots of wild life and a celebrity pic. Who needs the theme parks?

Your eyes did not trick you. The fence has been there for a couple years.

If my eyes did not trick me, it seems like a fence was installed in front of the area. Kayaked there two weeks ago.

Good to know. Of course, it could depend on the ranger.

Hi Yak, enjoyed reading your Hontoon loop blog Aug. 28, 2011. Thanks for posting. A neighbor and I paddled that same loop in February. FWIW....We had to make an emergency pit stop at that closed landing on the dead river where the signs say "no beaching watercraft". Of course...as luck would have it a park ranger walked up. We asked her if we were in trouble for beaching there and she said no....not with kayaks. They had some problems with power boaters mooring there all day and partying at one point.

Luis, Iike them. A lot. Lady Knight captured some wonderful bird in flight photos.

Looks like the kingfisher failed the reading portion of the FCAT.

Great picture of the Kingfisher, I find it is nearly impossible to get them in focus, they don't stay on a branch very long, always flying ahead of paddlers.

Great photos. I'd delete the one of the guy in the kayak and add another nature shot. Wink

Great pictures. I'm still waiting for my turn to see a manatee in the wild.

That is a tri colored heron. The fish are mullet. I think that island is one of the best places around to see wildlife.
