Cedar Key is an island community of about 700 residents on the Gulf of Mexico along Florida's big bend. Once a bustling seaport, it is now made up of art galleries, charter fishing boats, restaurants and bed & breakfasts. A perfect sea kayak destination!

(Seahorse Key) Hard to believe there has not been a Cedar Key Report since 2009. Iíve been there many times in the last 3 years. I kayak every weekend, from the Wakula River in the northwest, to the Ichetucknee River in the north, to St. Augustine in the northeast, to ~

(Atsena Otie Key) How do you know when a paddling trip becomes an adventure? Is it when you discover yourself and four others huddled in a porta-potty hiding from lightning? Or perhaps when you find a UFO shaped object in dark woods? Or was it the giant lizards?

Dave - excellent trip report and makes me want to go back to Cedar Keys. Especially enjoyed reading / seeing the part on Seahorse Key.

Sounds like you had a good paddle at Cedar Key and saw some some interesting sea creatures like the sharks and the sea turtle. Well written report.

Love the spoonies. I hope the paddler who tipped wasn't in the red Wilderness Tsunami. That's my yak.---On the other hand, if it was, I'm glad he recoverd quickly.

Beautiful pictures, Ed. An exciting time for all. Cedar Key can be tricky. The weather caused us to abort the paddle to Atsena Otie, once, and to abbreviate it another time, sort of like what you guys did this time.

Cheifg, thanks for the details. Launch fees, or lack of, landing spots, facilities, ect. is good info to know. Like admin, I long to return to Cedar Keys a place I visited in my pre-paddling days, and enjoyed very much. Kayaking will make a visit more enjoyable
