This 2.5 mile tributary of the Homosassa River may be overlooked by paddlers headed to Homosassa's head springs to see manatees, but is well worth exploration. Unlike the well devolped Homosassa, Halls River has just a few isolated residences.

Short scenic detour off the Homosassa. Well worth a visit after seeing the manatees at Homosassa Springs. Roughly half way between the ramp next to McRae's and Homosassa Springs State Park

I used the Columbus method. Keep going until you hit something. The springs are at the very end/start. As mentioned in the caption to the photo of the cormorant on the Idle Speed Zone sign, follow the signs, they will keep you in the main channel. You can see the canals on a Google Earth view.

Nice report Dave. Do have a question - how / where did you find the springs / canals on the Halls river? I did paddle to the Nature RV Park from MacRae's, but never ventured beyond - I assume it is west then upriver from the RV park?
