Lake Talquin is a reservoir created by the impoundment of the Ochlockonee River in 1927 by a hydroelectric dam. The name is a contraction of the two closest cities, Tallahassee and Quincy. The landing chosen to access the lake was Luther Hall Landing.

I have noted up to 8 pairs of Osprey courting in early February on Ocheesee Pond. There is one next at the top of the open area where one starts to follow the paddling trail. I know it has been active for at least 20 years. I have been "dive-bombed" by an osprey when I paddled too close while there were chicks in the nest.

Very informative, and well written report. I learned where Lake Talquin gets its name.

I wondered if the inlet was created by a stream entering the lake, but it just came to an end. Evidently a low spot that the water filled up.

The pics are wonderful. I'm still curious about what you found farther up the inlet. Sounds like the day was great for you, time for reminiscing. Can't beat that.
