sarbo1010 - beautiful sunset photo!

Just got back from 10,000 islands, picnic key - really nice. Was a hard paddle though - the seas were a little rough and we didn't time the tides right and got lost. so was a real battle to get there and 1/2 the time thought I was going to spend the night in the boat -- to cold for that.

All in all once I recover, would do it again in a heartbeat. Only wildlife spotted was 3 dophins and several pelicans, oh and buzzards. Beautiful sunset though - you can see in my pics.

Whitehorse Key is available for camping on a first-come basis, permits not required. The beach is very long, it is unlikely to be full, even on a weekend. It is part of the "Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve" , not part of the Everglades National Park, nearby to the east.

Great report! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you guys, despite the few set backs, had an awesome time.
How did you pick White Horse Key? How did you find out that it was OK to camp there? I'd love to take my family there. Are there any other Islands to camp on? How was the fishing?
Thanks,
--Rick

We had 17 paddlers stretched out along the beach, one group.
Sea turtles,

P.S. I have had a great 2009, made more fun by reading Greenwave!!

Sounded like a great trip. Thanks for the pics. Made me want to paddle there.

I was trying to guess the size of your group. Was everyone in the beach photo together or were there two separate groups?

"not suitable for motorized craft"
Just the way we like it.
You mention dolphins and turtles. Sea turtles? Or just see turtles?
