Most of the Sopchoppy River is located in the Apalachicola Forest. It is a narrow, twisty stream with many Cypress knees in the steam bed as well as fallen trees and branches. There should be a water level of 10.5 feet on the USGS gage before paddling.

(Sopchoppy at Och Riv State Prk) One can paddle to the Sopchoppy from Ochlockonee River State Park. Paddle upriver at the canoe/kayak launch at the swimming area on Dead River. It ends at the Sopchoppy River. We headed upstream to US 319 bridge west of the city of Sopchoppy.
