Located on Santa Rosa Island between Pensacola Beach and Navarre, Big Sabine offers calm, shallow water, white sand beaches and nearby towering dunes. The location is a popular hotspot for fishing, and should be for saltwater paddlers.

(Big Sabine Point Prim Campsite) In January 2009 a primitive campsite was built on Big Sabine Point along the Fla Circumnavigation Saltwater Paddling Trail among dead trees. No water or toilets. Firepit and two benches. Sandy spot to pitch tent. Sand beach to land boats.

I’m always looking for new places to dip a paddle and after a few minutes scanning DeLorme’s Florida Atlas and Gazette I spotted Big Sabine Point on Santa Rosa Island between Pensacola Beach and Navarre.

What's really sad is that you only lived a few blocks from me while I was coaching and not paddling. I think we would have had fun.

I like my Kestrel 160. The large cockpit helps to get my bad knees in and out. The boat paddles well but I am getting used to initial stability not being quite as rock solid like my Pungo. Secondary stability is great. It is a very good open water boat.

Had I been thinking, I would have taken a garbage bag and a rake to clean the place up. That would have been easy. One of the planks on a bench could stand to be replaced. That would have been harder. My guess is that some one leaned kindling against the bench to break by stomping but the bench broke instead.

Sad to know that people who could care less that they leave a mess live everywhere.

GPAX - what a surprise this morning to see a report on Big Sabine Point in PCola. I thought I was the first / last person to paddle this area. And when I read another Current Designs Kestrel made the trip it was like Déjà vu! I think we're going to have to rename it Kestrel Point.

Too bad about the people trashing the campsite / restrooms however. Maybe your report will inspire a group to come in and do some cleanup.
