(Shell Mound Unit) Just north of Cedar Key, this non-contiguous section of the Lower Suwannee NWR features the namesake midden, two short trails, and a primitive boat ramp to launch your craft in shallow tidal waters dotted with small islands on the edge of the Gulf.

The NWR and town of Suwannee offer nearly unlimited paddling opportunities on Florida's Big Bend. With only a day in the area, our foursome of TBSK paddlers chose to stick to the marked kayak and canoe trails of Demory, Lock and Shingle creeks.
