Situated on a barrier island along Florida's east coast, Canaveral National Seashore has pristine beaches, historical Timucuan Indian Mounds, excellent paddling in Mosquito Lagoon. If the Lagoon is rough, Shipyard Island offers a sheltered trip.

(Mosquito Lagoon) Variety, they say, is the spice of life. I varied my usual Mosquito Lagoon paddle and explored waters I had not paddled before, discovering a large wading bird feeding area on the south end of Shipyard Island.

(Mosquito Lagoon) Spend a National Holiday at a National Seashore with manatees and dolphins. Plenty of room , that even on a major boating day, you can have a good deal of seclusion.

(Mosquito Lagoon) I find it hard to believe there is only one Canaveral National Seashore report on the Forum. Time for me to add one.

The Canaveral National Seashore doesn't require a sea kayak to ride the surf. This trip in Mosquito Lagoon features oyster beds, mangrove islands and Indian mounds. Wildlife: dolphins year roiund, manatees much of the year & other aquatic & avain life.

I may have missed it, but I do not think there is a better dolphin photo on this site.

Thanks, Ed. I made the change. Pretty easy, maybe I need to review the Manual.

Today's Mosquito Lagoonwas enjoyable, but, aren't they all?

Seems like the first person who writes a report has remarks left in the opening comments of the trip reports. I have seen that happen before when their are multiple reports about the same location.

I need to figure out if I can edit the opening paragraph, removing
"a great place to view Space Shuttle launches." I do not know who wrote that, but it was not me. . On the other hand, if I leave it, paddlers will go here to watch launches, leaving Haulover Canal less crowded.

From YakDave's 7/4/09 trip.

Although, I'd like to think its my natural charisma.

Oh boy! Wink

Remind me not to get on your bad side so I don't appear in a "criminal" photo.

All kidding aside - looks like a great July 4th trip at Canaveral. Thanks for sharing!

I'll let the pictures tell the tale/tail.

Wink Nice pics - I especially like the first one you posted with the two tails at about 45 degrees. Must have been quite the sight to see dolphins doing whatever it was they were up to.
