Kings Bay is headwaters of the Crystal River. Dotted with islands, lined with inlets and canals. Residential canals, the Bay is highly developed. Numerous springs, attracting manatees. Which prevent the Bay shoreline from being completely paved over.

(Fort Island Trail) Finally getting out of the house and doing some exploring in the Crystal River area. At 3pm today I grabbed the camera, jumped in the car and headed to Crystal River to checkout launch sites at Fort Island Trail Park and Fort Island Gulf Beach.

(Kings Bay, Crystal River) Chris and I planned on being on the bay on Tuesday but high winds kept us off. Wednesday morning was very chilly. So we found Sue and Matt at Aardvark Kayak instead. Sue signed us up for her afternoon eco-tour of King's Bay.

(Three Sisters & Hunter Springs) Kings Bay is kayak paradise. Every direction someone was paddling. There seemed to be a kayak shop around every corner. We were here to learn how to interact with manatees. So this time we used a tour company to learn.

After meeting at MacRae's on the Homosassa River at 9am and no one else showing we headed north to Crystal River to join a kayak Sit In to raise awareness about manatee condition in Kings Bay. Save the Manatees was the motto of the day!

As much in the water as on it. Snorkeling with manatees is the attraction here. Too many homes, businesses and general sprawl to raise it above a 3, paddlewise. The manatees make it worth a visit- on a weekday, when crowds are sparse
