A wonderful, scenic, and peaceful run from the County Park on SR 40 just East of the Silver Springs attraction up the river to the headwater at the spring.

My Report:

We had a great trip up the Silver River on Saturday 7-3-2011, beginning at the Marion County Park on SR 40, about 6 miles east if the attraction and on the west side of the bridge over the Ocklawaha River. the facilities at the park are excellent, including clean restrooms, boat ramps, and "hand launch ramp" for the likes of us. Leaving the 200 yard canal, turn right in the river and paddle against about a 3 mph current. It is really easy paddling, but a couple of rest stops among the Cypress knees will be welcome. It took us about 3.5 hours to get to the headwaters at Silver Springs, and the Jungle Cruise and Glass Bottom boats. After about half hour sitting "side saddle" resting, we starred back down river. Along the way was visited with a family of monkeys, numerous turtles, blue herons, huge Mullet, and a few locals swinging from a rope swing. The return trip took about 2.5 hours.... And a wonderful day it was!
