My Report:

Full Moon paddle at Pennekamp State Park
April 21, 2008

Since park manager, Pat Wells (who is also one of the original Paradise Paddlers) hosted this trip, we got to leave from his house located in a secret spot at the park. Besides he and I, there were 6 other paddlers that showed up: Nick Woll, my cousin from Germany (Mixi), Pat Hackett & Barbara Howie from Miami, and local club member Wendy Leonard and a friend.

We first enjoyed some munchies and beverages and a tour of Pat's digs. The sun set at 7:47 so we launched around 7 p.m. The full moon didn't rise until 9:10 so we had more than 2 hours to paddle around while we waited for it to rise above El Radabob Key. We paddled into the sound and the small (unnamed) islands out there. Then we headed into some of the mangrove creeks which were fun to navigate in the dark!

We headed back out in the sound for a better viewing spot. The breeze and current caused the drift effect which made it hard to stay together in a group. We finally got to observe the wonder of the full moon rising and then called it a night since it was a Monday.
