(Flomaton to Hwy. 4) Lots of fun on a beautiful day with 19 paddlers in canoes and kayaks. Everyone enjoyed the adventure of paddling thru the trees.

(Poarch Indian Camp to Flomaton) Shallow clear gold tinted water runs between tree covered 8 foot clay banks over a bottom of smooth river gravel. The main channel is eroded clay that resembles limestone in other creeks. A few rapids in the upper section. No houses.

The route has three distinct sections. The first is a 2.5 mph creek through open forests. The creek narrows and flows through a cypress forest. Finally the creek opens into the wide Escambia River.

Sounds like a good day and a good paddle except for the rain and lightening. I think the more I paddle, the more I will accept paddling in the rain, but nothing beats a sunny or overcast day on the river.
